Jason Rhoades Archive

In cooperation with the Estate of Jason Rhoades, Hauser & Wirth Institute is processing and digitizing the archive of artist Jason Rhoades. Comprising some 110 linear feet of material, the archive includes manuals the artist prepared for his installations, as well as slides, photographs, receipts, correspondence, drawings, notebooks, audiovisual material, and born-digital items such as CDs and Zip disks. Once cataloged, the materials in the archive will be made accessible to researchers.

Rhoades (1965 – 2006) is known for monumental, room-filling installations influenced by the history of assemblage. Born in Newcastle, California, Rhoades attended the California College of Arts and Crafts before receiving a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1988. As a student at the Art Institute he became interested in the performance work of Paul McCarthy, who was then teaching at the University of California, Los Angeles, where Rhoades received his MFA in 1991. His work has been exhibited internationally since the early 1990s.
